Hello all, it’s Layne ecstatic to be reporting another day of blessings in DR. Today we returned to Cercadillo to work with Ina on improving the community, and spending quality and spiritual time with the kids. One of the buildings Ina uses for her ministries unfortunately had trusses infested with termites. From our project yesterday we were able to replace them today with the guidance of Time Ministries. Throughout the day we engaged the kids with songs, games, coloring, baseball, and our first successful game of basketball! It was a blessing to learn so much about the kids and just have lighthearted fun. We also had the opportunity to hear stories from missionaries and pray them up before we closed out the day of hard work and fun. It was so bitter-sweet leaving our last work day of Q21, but we are all excited for the future of Cercadillo and the other villages we had the privilege of doing God’s work in.
Hola everyone, It’s Terrell. Today we were blessed to go and tear down a chapel that had been broken into many times so that it can be moved to another location. When we got to the chapel, we saw that it had been vandalized and the door had been ripped off. The chapel was once a children’s ministry, but everything in there for the children had been stolen. We took the roof off and then removed all the walls as well. When we were done we put them on the back of a truck and headed back to the Time Center. It is encouraging to know that this chapel will be reassembled in another location and once again used for ministry. After unloading we all got back into the van and went to get some ice cream or frozen yogurt (which was a surprise to us all). After eating our delicious ice cream treat we all went back to the Time Center, and then after a long days of work we took a shower and ate dinner, then we went to the roof to debrief—which we always do. Once we were all outside Bella saw something in the night sky which was amazing. We all looked at the sky and saw a string of satellites going in a straight line. We discovered that these are the new SpaceX satellites that pass over the DR from time to time. Have a blessed day!! Parents, mentors, youth pastors and pastors please RSVP if you have not already done so. Space is limited.
Hello everyone, It’s Winston, Courtney, and TJ. We were gifted the opportunity to see Ina’s “Promised Land,” the village of Cercadillo. The kids around the village worked alongside us as we raked, pulled weeds, and trimmed a tree. We also played games with them and Leticia shared part of her testimony. God has been really working in this village through Ina as she teaches them English, manners, and about God. We all really enjoyed helping in the village and can’t wait until we go back Wednesday and see all the kids, animals, work in the village, and share the Gospel in the place they call home. Hola everybody! Today we had a wonderful day of hard work in the sun, although we are burnt, we learned a lot today about each other and the Dominican people! We spent the day in the same village as yesterday. There, we helped spread the remainder of the concrete for the basketball court as well as spend lots of time with los niños in the community. This included playing many games, singing lots of songs, and exploring the area of the church. It is very obvious that God is at work in this community through Pastor Alberto’s church. There are so many children in this village, and they are so closely knit with the church being the hub that allows them to come together. It was amazing to see how competitive a game of baseball can truly get. Here is something we learned about each person today: Mick tripped a few times, Courtney loves to play in the rain, Alaina’s voice is gone, Bethany is terrified of colossal centipedes, Terrell knows how to dance, Elijah is a pro interpreter, TJ is further developing his Spanish-speaking skills, Leticia made a new friend, Karis learned the Salsa, Winston is not experienced in street baseball, Layne is not fond of pigeons, and Bella (myself) stayed heavily hydrated and hit a home run. All in all, we loved getting to know all the people in the village. We also got some sun.
When I woke up this morning the first thought that came through my mind was “Am I still Dreaming.” I’m still in shock that I am in the DR. Our day started out strong with much excitement. When we got to the village lots of kids were eager to start playing. Half of our group worked to mix and spread concrete for a basketball court at the neighborhood church. The other half spent time with the local kids building relationships through games and activities, and Bible stories. We got many life lessons and first and possibly once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Even though the heat was a challenge, a sporadic rain shower blessed us. All of us worked hard, but don’t worry Vinetta made sure we drank plenty of water and the roaming chickens kept us on our toes. After the village, we stoped for some supplies at the local supermarket similar to our Walmarts. Then we came home for a family dinner. After dinner we were able to change out of our work-encrusted clothes. Lastly we got to celebrate Valentine’s Day with our local friends Edwarlin and Valentina. Now we get some down time before we wake up and do it again. -Bethany
DAY 1Today we met the missionaries we will be serving with and visited one of the two communities we will be in this week. Tomorrow we will be in this neighborhood all day! We are doing well, and are ready to take on some exciting cross-cultural challenges tomorrow morning. We are at the airport getting ready to board our flight!!!
We have now landed safely in Santo Domingo and are on the bus to the Time Center. The flight was smooth. We are excited for our first day here! Name, State, Church
