We returned to the village for Super Sábado. (Maybe I should have added a voice recording to show you our excitement.) Volunteers came as teachers from, Ina's church, to teach basic educational skills to the children. We saw the need for better educational training. Many of the children are behind in school because of the poor education system. But the volunteers encouraged the kids to learn. Our ladies partnered with each age group and helped the children with their letters, numbers, addition, subtraction, and multiplication. As we reflected tonight, we recalled how we take our schooling and teachers for granted.
Before we ended Super Sábado, we handed out about 45 toothbrush kits. A pink tablet was used to show all the plaque in their teeth. We had the kids brush and brush until all the pink went away. Our ladies saw their excitement and joy because the children received a toothbrushes.
After lunch, the children came and played games and helped clean. Playing with the kids was a high point for many of our ladies. Some ladies used the numbers they were practicing while playing basketball. Some played with the hula hoops and learned some moves.
I saw the ladies love on these kids, care for them, clap for them, and play with them. This means more to them than any toy or gift." ~Ina
It was hard to say goodbye. The children were told to give our ladies hugs. The moment was priceless and we almost shed some tears as we left.
Our day was filled with many giggles. The laughing was contagious. From the children to being with one another. Oh the gift of laughter and smiles. We are growing as sisters in Christ. May this continue, as we journey on together.
