This Trip at first was hard for me to comprehend, why did God choose me? I realized that the way God worked in my life was for me to be a light in a place of darkness. Even through my brokenness and even through the trails experienced during the trip, it was our teams job to show the light to show God’s love. God worked in amazing ways, he was fighting for us and he was there with the youth of Hamama and with us saying “I am here, I love you. Trust in me.” God really made me realize something about me that I saw but always pushed away, he made me realize that the happiness placed in me and the light placed in me has such an affect on people. God made me realize that this happiness and light is the very essence of where people see him in me. I know that I have a mission to spread his word and it’s starting here in my own home. Something as simple as a smile, a show of love, a hug, being a friend can go a long way and build connections for a life time. I’m so grateful for the opportunity God has given me, the way God worked through my team and I. All I have to give is thanks to our God because my team and I have built amazing connections with the people we met.
Looking back, I would have never imagined the things I was able to experience in Hawaii. Exploring the community and learning about the culture was a big way I was able to really submerge myself in this trip. Hearing about the difficulties the community had to go through and how the kids were raised was extremely humbling. I never would have thought I could build strong connections and trust with a group of kids in just under a week. Seeing them want to come hang out with us and worship with us was amazing. They encouraged me to grow stronger in my faith. Hearing all of their stories was also encouraging for me. Hearing the stories of my team also helped me to grow closer with them. Everyone was so open and inviting. The whole week I got to look at faith and God in a different perspective. Seeing kids form a dance circle during worship, make poi for communion, and just helping out their community every day was inspiring. Each person had a reason for being there at that time and God really brought out our gifts. I am so thankful for getting the opportunity to go on this trip and I know God has a plan for all of us; the youth group in Hawaii, our quest team, and everyone we encountered.
Throughout our trip to Hawaii I saw God work in so many ways. I had an hope of what I wanted to get out of this trip prior to going but learned not to depend too much of my expectations because God can work in many different ways. I wanted to be able to feel God with new people, in an area far from home, in a place I’m not comfortable. By the grace of God he allowed my expectation to be reached. On our worship night, the youth room was so filled with the Holy Spirit that many of us were very overwhelmed. I left Hawaii with a slight knowledge and complete amazement of how big our God is!
My quest trip is something I will never forget. Our group became more than a team, we became family. Over the course of the week we were there we worked with the youth in the community. One night we had a worship night and words can't describe how amazing it was. Sitting there and looking around I could feel the presence of God. I thought it was awesome to see that God brought us there for a reason and he was shining through each person. I also loved learning about the culture there and have made connections that will last a lifetime. Coming home, I am much closer with God and have been spending much more time with him. Overall the whole quest experience has really helped me to grow!
My time during quest was one of the best times of my life. To begin, I didn’t even want to do quest but when Allyson called me back, I felt as if it was God giving me a second chance so I decided to go and I’m glad I did. During the trip, my team connected with the youth from the church and although we’ve only known them for a couple of days, it felt as if I’ve known them my whole life. I saw God working through me in ways I could never imagine, whether it was plucking weeds in the pouring rain or simply sharing my testimony to some of the boys from the church. I never saw myself doing these things and quest provided me with the opportunity to do so. I have found myself getting closer to God since I’ve come back and my prayer is that my journey with Him continues.
Thank you for supporting Q19 through prayer, giving and encouraging words. We have returned and now asking God to continue to transform us to be more like Jesus in our everyday life.
We will share personal reflections here over the next few days. Please check back.

Today the group visited the community senior breakfast again. We enjoyed talking with folks we met last week and meeting new ones. The group shared their drama this morning. We met a gentleman who played for the Patriots many years ago, what stories he had. The greatest was how God transformed his life!
We visited a macadamia farm just down the road and had lunch from from a food truck. The afternoon was a challenge but the team wadded into a bog in the rain with 6th graders in the after school program. They were prepping the bog for planting. Just as they started it began to pour rain. They were troupers!
Packing and saying goodbye are never easy. As you read this we are the process of both. Pray for our final hours as we have conversations, share debrief thoughts and say goodbye.
Today our group tackled the Hamama church plant "to do list". Hamama is a small congregation with a staff that work other jobs to support themselves financially. So today our group helped and checked a few boxes:
weeded the hillside - done
clean the kitchen cabinets - done
move furniture, vacuum, shampoo the chapel carpet - done
clean baseboards - done
mix concrete and fill a driveway pot hole - done
shovel gravel at the bottom of the hill and return to the top - done
In the afternoon the group helped clear an area and then build a dam for one of the church members. The day ended with our team provided and cooked another church community meal which was followed by a Bible study. Another great day.
With mixed emotions our time here is winding down.
We want to finish strong!
With Monday being President's Day it turned into an all day youth event. Quest students first connected with leadership and talked thru the day. Minutes later students began to arrive. A 15 passenger van, two cars and a truck headed to the beach.
Early afternoon the group returned to the church for some casual time followed by pizza, a guys and girls separate bonding time and concluded with worship. Another full day.
Several students shared their faith story. If you are praying along, ask God to work clearly in the hearts of those who were present. God is working in the lives of our team as well. Keep praying for us.
